Councillor Keane Duncan has stepped aside from his role as Executive Member for Transport and Cycling Champion.
He was asked to do so by Council Leader Carl Les, according to a report by the BBC.
Councillor Les took the line that there was nothing unusual about this, and he simply thought it was time for a change. ‘This is something we do on a regular, almost annual basis’.
Councillor Duncan told the Conservative group on North Yorkshire Council that the request to stand aside was not performance-related.
‘You explained during our conversation that your purpose was to prepare for the future and to make way for new blood.
I agree that as we approach the election, the next generation will be key to our party’s renewal.
To win in 2027, we must be a dynamic and forward-looking party that inspires the trust of the electorate’.
Kex Gill
The BBC article refers to the Kex Gill realignment of the A59.
The DfT provided £56 million of the original £68.8 million budget.
The latest cost estimate is £82.5 million, meaning that North Yorkshire will have to pay an extra £13.7 million.
New NYC Transport Exec and Cycling Champion
Cllr Les already has someone in mind to take over from Cllr Duncan, and will make an announcement ‘in due course’.
