The Nidderdale Greenway runs for about 4 miles from Harrogate to Ripley. It opened in 2013, and has been tremendously popular and successful.

Now, we’d like to see it extended further along the old railway trackbed, to Pateley Bridge and beyond. It could be used for leisure and work travel by people who live in Nidderdale, and would be an attractive route for visitors to the area.

HDCA member Malcolm Margolis has been working on the route with former Regional Director of Sustrans David Hall, speaking to landowners and working out a draft route.

Malcolm Margolis and David Hall have spoken to landowners and stakeholders, and produced a draft route which has been incorporated into a 39-page Sustrans report.

It would transform the Greenway into a 27-mile route from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge and beyond, to Scar House Reservoir at the top of the Dale.

The next step is to form a steering group to take the project forward.
