North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) received £1,011,750 from the Emergency Active Travel Fund (EATF), the DfT announced today.
NYCC’s indicative amount was £1,065,000, so it got nearly all of that amount. It had put forward schemes worth a total capital amount of £1,465,000, as follows:
- Oatlands Drive, Harrogate £215,000
- A59 Knaresborough to Harrogate £250,000
- Victoria Avenue, Harrogate £250,000
- Whitby £250,000
- Helmsley £500,000
Some schemes have therefore missed out, but it has subsequently been confirmed that the Harrogate schemes were funded.
Also today, the DfT published research by Kantar showing that reducing road traffic and reallocating road space to walking and cycling are popular with the public. Additional Statutory Guidance from the Secretary of State emphasises the need for consultation before implementing EATF schemes.
