Routes in Coppice Valley ward
Cycle routes in this ward:
- Luchon Way
- residential streets around Coppice Valley & St Joseph’s Primary Schools
- A59 Skipton Road & Roberts Crescent
Did you know…Luchon Way is named after Harrogate’s twin town, Bagneres-de-Luchon in the French Pyrenees.

The Luchon Way cycle route is quite good, but it could be better signposted, and better linked up at both ends.
At the west end, there’s a rubbish faded paint pavement cycle lane on the A61 at Coop Garage which gives way to the entrance to the garage then gives up altogether.
At the east end, you can continue via Coppice Drive & Studley Road towards town, but there’s a narrow alleyway & a pedestrian-only bridge over the railway – neither of which would work for higher volumes of bicycle traffic.
Roberts Crescent and Unity Grove are both ideal places for LTNs as they’re regularly used as rat runs, it would help to encourage cycling to the local schools nearby.
The continuation of Luchon way bike path would be helped if the bridge near Asda was also shared use for cyclists too.
By the bridge near Asda, I guess you are thinking of the bridge between Dragon Road and Franklin Road. I had a really nasty experience with this chicanes. Take a look at my web site, in particular https://sites.google.com/view/tryingtricycling/inclusive-cycling/the-reality?authuser=0#h.kj1oqc5lg7o5
