Mayor of York & North Yorkshire David Skaith has appointed an Active Travel Commissioner for the region. She is Rhiannon Letman-Wade.
She will help implement the Mayor’s vision of a comprehensive network of lit, well-maintained walking, wheeling and cycling routes, and oversee the Mayor’s £4 million Active Travel Fund.
She is Deputy Chair of Wales’s Active Travel Board. In that role she has helped shape the country’s national policy, and assisted local authorities to improve their active travel ratings.
Ms Letman-Wade wants to speak to stakeholders and community groups to build a picture of ‘where we are now and what we need to do next’.
She says that safer school journeys are a priority.
