HDCA Supporter Ben Mortimer has produced a vision of how Knaresborough Road could look, if North Yorkshire build the cycleway that they designed back in 2016.

People crossing the road are given priority, and cycling is made safe for all ages and abilities. Even the weather is better than now.

Ben says, ‘Images can be useful to reassure people about proposed changes. They can remove a level of uncertainty, combat some of the negativity, and inspire people to be enthusiastic about the benefits of active travel infrastructure.’

North Yorkshire worked up a design for Knaresborough Road in 2016. Five years have slipped by, and the drawings have remained sitting on the shelf.

A cycleway on Knaresborough Road, from Harrogate Golf Club to the Empress roundabout, would benefit a great number of people, and we feel it should be a priority.

I live on Leyland Road so these are my local shops. I like the look of this, especially the planting. There is a huge area of depressing tarmac outside the One Stop shop at the moment which is not even used for parking, so I’ve always thought some plants and trees are needed to improve the look of the area. Speaking as a motorist (I’m also a cyclist and pedestrian) I’d find the zebra crossing useful in stopping the flow of traffic in the morning rush hour when I’m trying to turn out of Leyland onto Knaresborough Road.

      Thanks for your comment Tim.

We hope that a visual impression may inspire enthusiasm for these changes, and allay any fears people may have.
