Two good letters from members of HDCA have been published in the Harrogate Advertiser recently.
On 11th June 2020, Ian Hallett argued for a network of routes that can be used on bikes, not isolated cycle lanes. He suggested 20mph speed limits, stopping parking in cycle lanes, school streets, modal filtering and secure cycle storage.
Also on 11th June 2020, John Rowe responded to a reader’s letter to challenge the idea that car parking is the only driver of trade at local businesses. He highlighted evidence showing that cycling and walking routes are good for business, and enterprises near quality paths have seen growth of around 20%.
